The Weight of "Not Yet"

In the quiet of the consulting room, the word "negative" carries more weight than any clinical textbook can describe. Today, I sat with a couple who had reached their third "not yet."

One of the greatest misconceptions about fertility treatment is that the hardest part is the medication, the injections or the procedures.

From my perspective, for many patients, the hardest part is uncertainty.

Living month after month between possibility and disappointment.

Continuing to make plans while learning not to become attached to them.

Finding a way to remain hopeful without allowing hope to consume every part of life.

We spoke less about hormone levels and more about the fatigue of hope. Sometimes, the most important medical intervention is simply acknowledging that the waiting is exhausting.

And if you are currently carrying the weight of "not yet," I hope you know this:

You are not failing. You are simply carrying something very heavy.
